High schools - help to turn rookie donors into veteran donors!

The Community Blood Bank has built a long term relationship with our area high schools. We realize that instilling a sense of community service in our high school students will help turn them into lifetime blood and apheresis donors.

Welcome to the Blood Team
Sponsoring a high school blood drive is a challenge. It takes planning, organization and hard work by a team of dedicated students and faculty. The job is too big for one person to handle, so here are the positions you need to fill for your blood team:

Faculty advisor selects the date and location for the blood drive. Works with and advises the student chairman and co-chairman.

Student chairman and co-chairman act as the overall leaders of the blood drive. Work closely with the CBB school coordinator. They setup and conduct meetings with their sub-committees. Make sure all assignments are carried out. [These students should have leadership capabilities and work well with other students].
Recruitment and scheduling - help to recruit students, teachers, parents and others to be blood donors. They also schedule donors to assure a steady flow and prevent long waiting times.

Publicity helps to develop fun and different ways to attract attention to your big event. The CBB school coordinator and staff are available to help in any way possible.

Operations and volunteers help CBB personnel setup the bloodmobile site with necessary equipment. Recruit and schedule volunteers to help our staff during the blood drive.

Getting the word out - communication is the key to a successful drive. The more enjoyable and fun you make the whole experience, the more students and faculty will want to participate. Based on our past drives, here are some good ideas to help promote your event in a big way!

>>Select a theme for the entire blood drive.

>>Submit articles to the school newspaper before the drive.

>>Ask the student council and other student groups for help and also to spread the word about your blood drive.

>>Develop competitions between student groups or classes to help recruit more donors.

>>Put up a large paper thermometer in a main hallway with your drive goal at the top. Then fill it in as students pledge to donate.

>>Send photos of your donors, volunteers and faculty to local community newspapers along with a news release telling them about your blood drive.

>>Clearly identify the blood drive site on the day of the visit with large banners. Also, place signs around the campus directing donors to the drive site.

>>Most importantly, remember to say a big "thank you" to all your donors and volunteers for giving the gift of life!
